Tonight, I went to the big Martha Blogger party held at MSLO offices in Chelsea. It was a lovely event with loads of BlogHer attendees and bloggers both local and out of town. There were stations for different areas of MSLO’s endeavors which included Crafts, food, gardening, pets and weddings. At the wedding station, One Girl Cookies’ Dawn Casale was there with yummy pink cupcakes and pink sandwich cookies. If you ever in the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn, you should stop by.

The Reporter News clued us in to yet another cupcake truck, Jimmies Cupcake Company in North Wales, Pennsylvania, which names their cupcake flavors after celebrities. Also interesting to note: the van took five months to decorate! See our cupcake truck section on the right-hand side (scroll down) to find a cupcake truck near you, and if your favorite one isn’t on our list, send us their URL and Twitter handle at cupcakestakethecake at gmail.com and we’ll add them.

That menu, posted on the rear right side of her mobile bakery, lists a few of the 16 different flavors of cupcakes that Jimmies makes and sells throughout Montgomery County, at events including farmers markets in Lansdale, North Wales and Warrington as well as at Lansdale’s First Fridays.

In keeping with the company’s name (based on the “jimmies” or sprinkles that adorn most of her cupcakes, Wente said), each flavor is named after a famous

Jimmy, James or Jim.

Examples include the vanilla and chocolate flavored James Madison, the banana flavored Jim Carrey, a tiramisu style James Cagney, and a chocolate on chocolate James T. Kirk.

“Some of the names fit with the ingredients, like the Jimmy Carter was obvious because it includes peanut butter, and the James Taylor has Boston cream because he’s from Boston, but some of the other ones I just can’t connect. I’ve tried, but they’re just not there,” she said.

She added that she’s always looking for more names, and said customers have been sharing family recipes that could also lead to new flavors.

Click here for their official site, and you can also follow them @jimmiescupcakes on Twitter or on Facebook, where the photos below are from.

Pillsbury Cupcakes, originally uploaded by nichellestephens.
Maybe because it is still morning, but I was totally surprised that the Pillsbury booth is not mobbed with people. Not only, you can take pictures with the Pillsbury Dough Boy, but also you can decorate cupcakes with Pillsbury Easy Frost. The frosting come in pink, orange, green, chocolate and cream cheese. You can even fill the cupcake with frosting in the middle. Fun!

Calling Cupcake Bakers!

We post photos of your cupcakes.

We attend events and chat with you.

We read and respond to your comments.

But now we want to go further and share who you are as a cupcake baker with the rest of the community.

Starting this month, I will be hosting a column called “Cupcake Baker of the Week” to profile a cupcake creator behind the photos we post throughout the site. I hope to shed light on who’s behind the camera, whisking away at the kitchen counter, and hovering around the oven to finally produce these scrumptious looking cupcakes you see on Cupcakes Take the Cake. Now is the chance to shine the spotlight on the bakers who truly “take the cake.”

Submissions are also accepted, if you or someone you know lives, breathes, eats, and dreams (and bakes!) about cupcakes. E-mail me with the subject title “Hey Melissa! Meet this Cupcake Baker!” at cupcakestakethecake@gmail.com with the person’s name, contact info, and a short blurb about what makes them an interesting candidate.

Looking forward to getting to know the faces and hearts behind the cupcakes!

Flickr issues = posting delays

Programming note: I’m having a lot of trouble with the new Flickr system, so posts will be lighter from me until I get the hang of it (and if anyone knows how to opt out of the new system and use the old one, let me know!). Flickr users please note: many of your settings have been adjusted so that I can’t download your photos, which means that I can’t blog your photos – just a heads up, as I’ve run into this a few times from accounts that I’d previously had no problem grabbing images form. If you have suggestions, write to me with “Flickr” in the subject line at cupcakestakethecake at gmail.com – my main issue is very slow loading when I go to “all sizes” and general slowness that was never a problem before.

These lemon cupcakes from the blog Seize the Cupcake were made using a tweaked Martha Stewart recipe (click for the recipe), and inspired by the novel The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender.

Yay! I wanted to do something special for #BlogHer, but a meetup would be too unwieldy. So I asked ElisaC and she said that Cupcakes Take The Cake could provide cupcakes for the Serenity Suite, a quiet respite away from the hubbub of BlogHer. There are were three dozen cupcakes from Brooklyn’s Lux Sugar. One dozen is the Lady Gaga which is a lemon blueberry cupcake. Another dozen is the Marilyn Monroe which is a red velvet cupcake. The third dozen is Michelle O. which is named after our First Lady which is a cinnamon cupcake with cream cheese frosting and pineapple.
